London based custom Harley-Davidson® designer Charlie Stockwell of Warr’s Harley-Davidson, Europe’s oldest Harley dealership, introduces his latest creation. ‘Unorthodox’.

It’s a striking distance from the designs we are used to from Stockwell and Warr’s H-D. Best known for his award winning and trend setting vintage designs, no-one was expecting such a bike to be wheeled out of the Warr’s workshop on the King’s Road in the heart of Chelsea. He dared to break tradition and did exactly that. A breath taking cocktail of chrome and carbon fibre. Neo-vintage styling. No leather or tassels on this Harley.

Nearly everything on ‘Unorthodox’ is hand made by Stockwell himself. The original Harley-Davidson® Fatboy® was stripped down leaving just the engine and chassis. The oil tank was removed from beneath the seat and the chassis re-shaped to drop the solid one-of-a-kind carbon fibre solo saddle to an extreme slammed ride height. A new oil tank was fabricated to fit inside the original, tear-drop shaped, Fatboy fuel tank. Stockwell crafted the high-low dual exhaust system which rather cleverly houses the rear lights in the carbon mufflers. To enhance the bikes fierce stance only a pair of MotoGP spec Ohlins front forks will do. It doesn’t stop there, custom made CNC triple trees mount the forks to the frame. Brembo monobloc calipers are fitted to deal with the brute force of the new tuned 113ci Screamin’Eagle H-D Engine which has been treated with glossy black powder coat and the cooling fins Diamond Cut for a show sparkle. Carbon fibre, race style clip-on handlebars are fitted with Performance Machine controls to match the huge wheels wrapped in Metzeler rubber, 3″ open primary drive and foot controls.

Meet “The Seven Year Itch”. This 1967 Chevrolet “Hot Wheels” style is a completely frame off restored truck and has so many tasteful and custom attributes it hurts just thinking about them. Seven Year Itch = a seven year project. It would take a complete evening to simply take all of this truck in and then the rest of the month to truly understand it’s beauty and craftsmanship. This truck was a seven year project that a high end automobile collector invested to make it where it is today. How many times have you heard – “Over $100,000 invested in this collector car” knowing that it was half that amount? This is not the case here.

This truck was built mostly for show knowing it would take the odd occasional drive. This truck can be described as a trailer queen. It was built to be perfect in appearance and to be trailered to shows – not driven to them. The most expensive part of this truck is everything. Everything is as nice as the rest. The truck was completed about 2 years ago and every single show it entered, it took all of the trophies in its class, including but not limited to “PEOPLE’S CHOICE” and “BEST PAINT AND BODY” at the famous Draggins Rod and Custom Car Show. I was at this show and it was the talk of the show. I believe it won around 6 awards at one show in its debut. This is a car show that sees $500,000 Roadsters. In its first showing, this truck was invited to be the spotlight in the Hot Rods & Classics Magazine.

Body Mods and Features

- Top chopped 4”
- Rolled Drip Rails
- Smoothed Door Handles & Tailgate
- Frenched Antenna & Stake Pocket
- Smooth Firewall
- Flush Front and Rear Glass
- One Piece Side Glass
- Hidden Fuel Filler (Behind Back-up Light)
- Custom Side Exhaust exits – electric module turns exhaust to straight header or to exit in front of the rear tires at the flick of a switch
- Full air ride technologies with controls on Key FOB as well as inside truck

The CR&S “DUU” is a custom concept motorcycle, which was unveiled at the EICMA Milano International Bike Show in November 2009. The DUU is a naked, two-seater premium motorcycle with a modular layout. Two western motorcycle cultures have been synthesized inside the “DUU”: a sporty European rolling chassis powered by a muscular American V-twin. The DUU is said to provide an intuitive ride, with technological innovations and assertive styling.

The CR&S DUU is equipped with the new S&S “X-Wedge” engine with a capacity of 1916cc (117c.i.). Last year S&S celebrated its 50th Anniversary by creating this unique engine as a synthesis of its experience and technology. The X-Wedge is a new engine in the American tradition of big twins, which meets the latest emission and noise standards, but with a special character and high performance.

Chevrolet would continue to produce the Chevelle until 1977, during which time it would get ever-increasing boosts of horsepower during the muscle-car salad days of the late sixties, and reach the zenith of it’s performance in 1970 when it rolled off the line with 454 cubic-inches capable of turning out 450 horsepower. As with all muscle cars, the early ’70′s saw a continued roll-back on power thanks to higher fuel and insurance prices, as well as the introduction of smog equipment. When the Chevelle badge was retired in 1977 the basic chassis/body style carried on under the Malibu name–de-tuned and de-fanged.

Radical But Practical Revisited
The Decline And Renaissance Of Jay Everett’sPart 2
Last month we began the tale of Jay Everett’s sports rod. For a recap, the car was unique by literal definition. Whereas a custom car is an existing vehicle modified to distinguish it from others, Jay’s car was entirely a fabrication of his vision built from raw sheet and tubing and a few essential parts of existing vehicles. Even by the standards of the 1950s, considered by many the Golden Age of the custom car, it stood out.

Listen to the radio, preferably a station which broadcasts RnB, Hippedy-Hop-Hop or standard Pop, and I can guarantee that you will hear a brand name mentioned in the lyrics within 5 minutes. It’s become a well known fact that singers are some of the best marketers around, capable of bringing even the most bizarre of products into the limelight and onto the tips of teenagers’ tongues across the globe.

Rappers are no different and the “best in the business” have lavish sponsorship deals and manage to rival earnings to those of A-list fame. How rappers and mere celebrités do differ however is in the way they spend their bucks, and on the wheels they purchase and cruise in on a daily basis.
When you think of a custom, does the image of a ’49-51 Mercury immediately pop into your head? The majority would probably say yes, such is the status of the legendary Merc. And for good reason. You can thank Sam and George Barris for creating some of the most iconic customs from Mercury’s all-new offering which debuted in 1949, not to mention the model’s appearance on celluloid over the years establishing it as the customizer’s favorite.
