Good news, HOT ROD readers. You just thought you were crazy. In truth, you’re only mildly colorful. Oh sure, you’ve often reflected on how your taste in transportation trends toward the outlandish, if not the extreme. And given all those long hours you’ve spent in the garage building such machines, friends and family have mentioned (frequently) how your behavior might be described as, well, obsessive. However, when it comes to over-the-top road vehicles and the mentally questionable commitment required to construct them, you’d have a hard time matching Joe Skonecki. Just look at what he built. Compared with him, you can consider yourself almost normal. This dude is totally nuts, and we mean that in the best possible way. We come in praise of this form of insanity.

Hit any car show these days-from a colossal spread like the Detroit Autorama to an intimate gathering at the local Fuddruckers-the chance of coming across a stunning late second-gen is somewhere between slim and none. Sure, you’ll see quite a few nicely-restored examples and a plethora of drag cars, but nothing that will compare to George Paul’s award-winning ’80 Z28. And it’s not as if these cars aren’t plentiful and still affordable-they are. They make great projects, it just seems like owners of these particular rides have yet to be provoked with the appropriate template on provisions to give these cars proper street cred … until now, that is.

Ferrari 458 Italia to Replace the F430 (VIDEO)

For months we have been seeing various renderings and spy shots as well as hearing tidbits of leaked information concerning the Ferrari F430 replacement. It has commonly been referred to as the Ferrari F450. However, we now have the official announcement on Maranello’s latest wondercar and it goes by the name Ferrari 458 Italia. Although we won’t get to see this car up close and personal until the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, we do have the official details as well as the first concrete pictures of this supercar.

The new direct-injection mid-rear mounted 4.5L V8 is seriously potent with 570 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, of which, 80% is available at 3,250 rpm. This brilliant engine is mated with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox sending power to the rear axle. Similar to the outgoing Ferrari F430, the new 458 Italia has an aluminum frame which provides a very low dry weight of only 3,042 pounds. So, what’s the real story here?

The Ferrari 458 Italia now has the distinction of being the first production model capable of breaking the 200 mph barrier with a top speed of 202 mph. And the sprint from 0 to 62 mph takes only 3.4 seconds. Even though this car is much more powerful that the aging F430, the 458 Italia is more fuel efficient with a combined rating of 17.1 mpg as well as significantly reduced CO2 emissions.

In the 2005 film Batman Begins, the freewheeling Bruce Waynepulls up to a nightclub in a low-slung Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster. The car, whose name is Spanish for “bat,” was presumably purchased to celebrate the scion’s return to Gotham. Sticker price? About $350,000.

But there’s a big difference between a truly cool car and one that’s just expensive: careful customization. It’s what separates a generic Lamborghini from the Batmobile, Bruce Wayne from Batman. The same holds true for rap’s richest. Real car guys like T-Pain, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne know how to make their rides stand out in a way that’s garish, sometimes, but also tasteful to the well-trained eye.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce

The Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is fitted with a 670-horsepower toro lidiado that powers the car from 0 to 60 in just 3.2 seconds. It is the fastest Lamborghini, with tops speeds reaching 212 mph. With its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the LP 670-4 shows off its features – a a 6.5-liter V-12, carbon fiber mods, new supsension, and aerodynamic tweaks. Only 350 were made and will be set at a price range around $300,000.
