While his earliest memories would be of his uncle’s fixed up cars when he was very young, Lynn would forever be a builder after he was introduced to scale model car kits in the Fifties (one of his favorites was the Ala Kart kit). In the early Sixties, Lynn was a teenager in Southern California, where, in addition to cars, he was drawn to the beautiful nearby coastline. Many years and almost as many cars later, Lynn was starting yet another project with a few forlorn pieces and a picture in his head as to what he could turn those bits into. A well-used 1927 Ford Model T roadster cowl and pair of doors found their way into Lynn’s busy garage, and were all he needed to get the wheels turning toward building his own version of a Fifties “show rod” inspired by the Ala Kart.

John Swanson’s Traditional A/V-8 Is A Lifelong Dream

Many a rodder has a story about how long it took to build their dream ride. So it should come as no surprise when John Swanson of Huntington Beach, California, gobbled up 12 years to build his A/V-8. This 1929 Ford highboy roadster resting on Deuce ‘rails is the beginning–or should we say the end–of this story.

Some of you may have already seen this Flatty-motored A roadster starring on Hot Rod TV, so when we met its owner Jordan Graham at the West Coast Kustoms show in Santa Maria, we figured the story behind its build was worth sharing. After all, there aren’t many teenagers who get their own TV show, let alone many who have built their second traditional hot rod and still own them both! Also, Jordan tackled pretty much all the work on his rods himself, with advice from old-time hot rodders in his local area. Coming from the Solvang area of California, near Santa Barbara, this isn’t surprising, but a lot of these guys that Jordan looked up to have passed away, and according to Jordan, “With a lot of their generation going away fast, I wanted to carry it on for all of them. I’ve taken their advice over the years and did what I’ve done to impress them.
